Once every year, german car magazine Sport Auto organizes a huge event at the Hockenheimring, which includes the TunerGP and the Drift Challenge. The TunerGP is a time attack for any kind of cars from tuners all over german europe and is meant to give them a chance to show what they can do. The Drift Challenge meanwhile has become one of the most well known drift events in europe.

Finally, two weeks ago the season properly got underway with our first two trackdays at Anneau du Rhin. Fellow photographer Thomas has already posted his pics from the saturday event last friday, so I thought I’d focus on monday first and process my saturday pics at a later time.

As almost every year, last week I made the trip down to Geneva for the Autosalon. I think I’ve actually mentioned on here before that I don’t really like static carshows, there’s just not enough smoke, noise and action. Nonetheless, Geneva is always a good opportunity to catch up on what’s new in the automotive world.

Sometime this winter, my good friend and fellow photographer Alok Paleri called me, asking „hey dude, would you like to spend a whole day drifting you car on snow?“. Well of course, long discussions and persuasions followed until, 7 seconds later, I said „yeah, of course!“.

Well I recently had a few chances to drive something a bit different from the scooby I normally drive for a weekend. As one of the cars in question also happened to look pretty good (at least in my opinion) I of course had to do a little photoshoot. Being interested in pretty much anything with an internal combustion engine in it, it goes without saying that I also tested all its abilities pretty thouroughly so thinking about this week’s photo friday, I thought why not just have a go at a bit of a car review. So I present to you, the Mercedes-Benz CLS500:

As you might have noticed, we’re in between seasons. No trackdays, no driftevents for weeks, what is a petrolhead supposed to do during all this time? Well, I could build myself a 7000hp driftcar and win D1 seven times.. but unfortunately I have no money, otherwise I’d certainly be doing that. So unfortunately I had to restrict myself to swapping the diffs and transmission on my scooby. It’s now even more ready than ever for endless snow-drift session.. but, f..reezing hell, where’s the snow? Well, I could just go to some motorshows then.. and that’s exactly what I did, visiting Essen as well as Luxemburg Motorshow on recent weekends.

In case you don’t speak german you probably won’t get the really bad joke hidden in the title.. it means „german grassroots“, as I recently went to a free drift practice day organized by the guys from driftschule.de at Neuhausen ob Eck in southern germany.

I’m sorry about the slight delay, it’s got something to do with me being in germany, trying to have a full job for once and having to edit the pics on my laptop, which is ooooold… 🙂 so here’s a brief look at a few first pics I picked out from what I shot at the Nurbugring last weekend:

This week it’s the first time that I’m writing a Photo Friday for you at my new home in Stuttgart, Germany, where I’m currently doing an internship. While this means that I’m closer to the Nurburgring and some other racetracks, they of course had to do one of the biggest race events ever in Switzerland right after I moved away from there. And then, word came to me that our drift team was going to do a drift demo there! So of course I had to go there (not that I wouldn’t want to otherwise 😉 ) and therefore I can now present to you my captures from what was an absolutely awesome event, the inaugural Red Bull Race Day at Mollis Airfield.
