Let me tell you, heavy gravel impact isn\u2019t good mental preparation for the qualifying runs. My confidence and concentration went down the drain.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" id=\"TB_Image\" src=\"http:\/\/www.z\u00fcridrift.ch\/wp-content\/gallery\/pic12\/Pic32.jpg?1483312795\" alt=\"Pic32.jpg\" width=\"598\" height=\"310\" \/><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><em>I was having slight complications during qualifying<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p>They pulled me out of the gravel, and I asked for more practice runs \u2013 but there was no time. Toby still needed to do his qualifiers as well. I then remembered I still had my tires mounted the wrong way around to save rubber the day before. Shit.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" id=\"TB_Image\" src=\"http:\/\/www.z\u00fcridrift.ch\/wp-content\/gallery\/ids-amp-edc-finals-29-10-2010-part-2\/Pic3.jpg?929429242\" alt=\"Pic3.jpg\" width=\"598\" height=\"300\" \/><\/p>\n<p><em><\/em>That\u2019s probably why the car felt more unstable than Amy Winehouse during drug therapy. I launched off for the first of three qualifiers and felt almost as scared as last time at IDS Round 2 when I had to run a drift battle while semi-drunk. But there was no time to think about that now..<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" id=\"TB_Image\" src=\"http:\/\/www.z\u00fcridrift.ch\/wp-content\/gallery\/ids-amp-edc-finals-29-10-2010-part-2\/Pic4.jpg?1408877061\" alt=\"Pic4.jpg\" width=\"601\" height=\"399\" \/><br \/>\n<em><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Where did the track go?<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p>Here\u2019s the rundown of my most horrible qualification experience ever:<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; Run 1: Initiate with only ~60% speed and high optimism. It was still too fast, as I hit the gravel pit hard (again)! Zero points, lamer.<br \/>\n&#8211; Run 2: Initiate slower than a granny in an electric wheelchair, then proceed to geeeently slide over the wet track with less speed than a canal boat. Very little points, lamer.<br \/>\n&#8211; Run 3: Initiate more bravely again, somehow keep it on the track with acceptable speed till the final corner but then spin out just before the finish! Aaaaahhh!!! Zero points, lamer.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" id=\"TB_Image\" src=\"http:\/\/www.z\u00fcridrift.ch\/wp-content\/gallery\/ids-amp-edc-finals-29-10-2010-part-2\/Pic6.jpg?1453628503\" alt=\"Pic6.jpg\" width=\"598\" height=\"322\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Oh my. Normally I manage to pull off at least one of the three runs up to my expectations. This time, I didn\u2019t pull off jack shit. Just after these laps, I was pretty much certain I would not qualify into the IDS Top16. However, this qualifying also counted for the Falken EDC Top32 battles so there was still hope!<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" id=\"TB_Image\" src=\"http:\/\/www.z\u00fcridrift.ch\/wp-content\/gallery\/ids-amp-edc-finals-29-10-2010-part-2\/Pic5.jpg?1006152591\" alt=\"Pic5.jpg\" width=\"601\" height=\"399\" \/><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><em>Toby ran solid qualifications<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Toby\u2019s qualification didn\u2019t go as disastrous as mine \u2013 He managed to pull trough two solid laps and only spun out once. Swen also ran in the qualifications \u2013 he had already done his qualifiers long before when the track was still dry, so we were wondering about those results.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" id=\"TB_Image\" src=\"http:\/\/www.z\u00fcridrift.ch\/wp-content\/gallery\/ids-amp-edc-finals-29-10-2010-part-2\/Pic7.jpg?1609480952\" alt=\"Pic7.jpg\" width=\"598\" height=\"311\" \/><\/p>\n<p>It was time to call it a day, but there was something special about today. Yes, it was Swen\u2019s birthday! What a lucky day for him. We proceeded to destroy him by partying hard at the \u201cEifeldorf\u201d, the N\u00fcrburgrings own danceclub. It was a legendary night.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" id=\"TB_Image\" src=\"http:\/\/www.z\u00fcridrift.ch\/wp-content\/gallery\/ids-amp-edc-finals-29-10-2010-part-2\/Pic8.jpg?360741503\" alt=\"Pic8.jpg\" width=\"598\" height=\"333\" \/><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><em>Swen before his birthday bash, still able to walk straight and smile<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Competition Day<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>My hangover the next morning was just as legendary as the party that caused it. I\u2019m always amazed what the human body is capable of \u2013 after a long roadtrip, 2 full days of drifting, fixing cars, partying and not really sleeping or eating at all, we were still going strong for day 3! Woooo.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" id=\"TB_Image\" src=\"http:\/\/www.z\u00fcridrift.ch\/wp-content\/gallery\/ids-amp-edc-finals-29-10-2010-part-2\/Pic9.jpg?253159138\" alt=\"Pic9.jpg\" width=\"598\" height=\"398\" \/><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><em>Lazy fucking photographers. We need that space for backup tires!!<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p>I ripped open a big can of Red Bull and got cracking. In the morning, it was the IDS Top16 battles and then the EDC Top32 battles in the afternoon. So many battles, so little time!<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" id=\"TB_Image\" src=\"http:\/\/www.z\u00fcridrift.ch\/wp-content\/gallery\/ids-amp-edc-finals-29-10-2010-part-2\/XDSC_24.jpg?1389491977\" alt=\"XDSC_24.jpg\" width=\"601\" height=\"399\" \/><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><em>Mmmh&#8230; Red Bull for breakfast&#8230; <\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p>However the first bummer of the day came early. The qualification results list was released and just as expected I fucked up the qualifications the day before.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" id=\"TB_Image\" src=\"http:\/\/www.z\u00fcridrift.ch\/wp-content\/gallery\/ids-amp-edc-finals-29-10-2010-part-2\/Pic10.jpg?1349127629\" alt=\"Pic10.jpg\" width=\"495\" height=\"745\" \/><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><br \/>\n<em>Toby&#8217;s bumper needed some help from the legendary ziptie doctor<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p>I was sitting on 18th place, ruling me out of the IDS Top16 battles. It was enough for the EDC Top32 battles, but I would\u2019ve loved to run in some more IDS battles this season. Can\u2019t have it all I guess.<br \/>\nToby was in 14<sup>th<\/sup> place, so he made it into the IDS Top16. Nice going!<br \/>\nSwen was in 19<sup>h<\/sup> place, so he also barely missed the IDS Top16, noooo!<br \/>\nIcon and Philippe&#8217;s ranking in the Street class were not yet known<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" id=\"TB_Image\" src=\"http:\/\/www.z\u00fcridrift.ch\/wp-content\/gallery\/ids-amp-edc-finals-29-10-2010-part-2\/Pic11.jpg?1918415292\" alt=\"Pic11.jpg\" width=\"601\" height=\"399\" \/><br \/>\n<em><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Preparing for the IDS &amp; EDC battles&#8230;<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p>So only Toby would be running in any IDS battles this time. All three of us would then run in the EDC Top32 battles later on. Go Speed Industries!<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" id=\"TB_Image\" src=\"http:\/\/www.z\u00fcridrift.ch\/wp-content\/gallery\/ids-amp-edc-finals-29-10-2010-part-2\/Pic12.jpg?1537805523\" alt=\"Pic12.jpg\" width=\"598\" height=\"398\" \/><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Heey there Icon&#8230; having a little hangover?<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Toby got ready for the IDS Top16 and lined up his car with the other 15 drivers. He would go up against Lars Verbraeken in his E30 M3 racecar. Lars is a sponsored FALKEN tires driver, and FALKEN dudes tend to know how to drive.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" id=\"TB_Image\" src=\"http:\/\/www.z\u00fcridrift.ch\/wp-content\/gallery\/ids-amp-edc-finals-29-10-2010-part-2\/Pic13.jpg?354485779\" alt=\"Pic13.jpg\" width=\"598\" height=\"368\" \/><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Toby got a free win in his Top16 battle! <\/span><\/p>\n<p>But Toby got lucky because Lars Verbraeken\u2019s car had broken just earlier in the day so Toby automatically won the round and was in the Top8 already! Sweeet!<\/p>\n<p>The Top8 battle set Toby against Kees Kok. Toby kinda messed up the first run, giving his opponent the advantage. In the second run however, Toby stepped up his game and took the advantage back! Oh yeah, the judges asked for a ONE MORE TIME.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" id=\"TB_Image\" src=\"http:\/\/www.z\u00fcridrift.ch\/wp-content\/gallery\/ids-amp-edc-finals-29-10-2010-part-2\/Pic15.jpg?623644444\" alt=\"Pic15.jpg\" width=\"598\" height=\"290\" \/><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">He then managed to go &#8222;one more time&#8220; against Kees Kok<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Unfortunately, in the first one more time run, Toby had some faults in his line giving the advantage to his opponent again. In the second run, Toby finally fell, when his opponent pulled off a more solid run. Too bad, he was now out of the IDS Top8.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" id=\"TB_Image\" src=\"http:\/\/www.z\u00fcridrift.ch\/wp-content\/gallery\/ids-amp-edc-finals-29-10-2010-part-2\/Pic16.jpg?413341187\" alt=\"Pic16.jpg\" width=\"598\" height=\"355\" \/><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Byebye blue PS13. See you at the EDC Top32! <\/span><\/p>\n<p>All our hopes now went to the EDC Top32 battles in the afternoon.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" id=\"TB_Image\" src=\"http:\/\/www.z\u00fcridrift.ch\/wp-content\/gallery\/ids-amp-edc-finals-29-10-2010-part-2\/Pic17.jpg?1296228355\" alt=\"Pic17.jpg\" width=\"494\" height=\"745\" \/><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Speed Industries signature BBQ recharges the batteries after hard battles!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Falken EDC Top32 Battles<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Lunch came and went as we fiddled with the cars to be ready for the EDC Top32. All Speed Industries PRO class drivers had qualified and we were ready to rumble!<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" id=\"TB_Image\" src=\"http:\/\/www.z\u00fcridrift.ch\/wp-content\/gallery\/ids-amp-edc-finals-29-10-2010-part-2\/Pic18.jpg?690792119\" alt=\"Pic18.jpg\" width=\"601\" height=\"399\" \/><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Lunchtime shenanigans&#8230;<\/span><\/p>\n<p>They presented the list of opponents. This turned out to be really funny for two reasons:<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; My first opponent was Lars Verbraeken with the verbroken BMW. I would automatically win the first round since his car was unusable. Top16 here we goooo!!<br \/>\n&#8211; Swen who drives a 160hp Corolla had to go up against Juha Rinthanen, who actually <em>is<\/em> Darth Vader and drives the death star S14a with over 700 horsepowers<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" id=\"TB_Image\" src=\"http:\/\/www.z\u00fcridrift.ch\/wp-content\/gallery\/ids-amp-edc-finals-29-10-2010-part-2\/Pic19.jpg?1285351563\" alt=\"Pic19.jpg\" width=\"598\" height=\"315\" \/><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Lars Verbraekens car was broken, so he had to forfeit the battle against me..<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Toby and myself found this extremely amusing and cracked at least 80 jokes about Swens upcoming \u201cmission impossible\u201d battle. It was a David vs. Goliath situation, only that David from the story had a much higher chance to win.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" id=\"TB_Image\" src=\"http:\/\/www.z\u00fcridrift.ch\/wp-content\/gallery\/ids-amp-edc-finals-29-10-2010-part-2\/Pic22.jpg?842001133\" alt=\"Pic22.jpg\" width=\"437\" height=\"598\" \/><br \/>\n<em><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">&#8222;Aaaahhh I don&#8217;t wanna battle against that guy!!&#8220;<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p>Our shenanigans made Swen very angry which made everything even funnier. Swen lined up his little corolla next to Juha\u2019s star destroyer. Juha was leading for the first battle. He launched off with a rocket start, similar to a spaceship going into light speed. At the Dunlop corner, Swen was already 7 car lengths behind.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" id=\"TB_Image\" src=\"http:\/\/www.z\u00fcridrift.ch\/wp-content\/gallery\/ids-amp-edc-finals-29-10-2010-part-2\/Pic20.jpg?930095397\" alt=\"Pic20.jpg\" width=\"598\" height=\"336\" \/><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><em>Swen exiting the Dunlop corner, pulling absoluely everything out of his Corolla to keep up&#8230;<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p>The following uphill section widened the gap even more. The judges said the person with more power must wait for the slower car. But Juha was in race driver mode, shutting his brain off and just stepped on it with no mercy.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" id=\"TB_Image\" src=\"http:\/\/www.z\u00fcridrift.ch\/wp-content\/gallery\/ids-amp-edc-finals-29-10-2010-part-2\/Pic21.jpg?900642403\" alt=\"Pic21.jpg\" width=\"601\" height=\"399\" \/><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">&#8230;while Juha was already in a different time zone at the uphill transition<\/span><\/p>\n<p>The gap was now like 25 car lengths. By the time they finished their stint, the gap was about\u2026 oh I don\u2019t know 7 miles? We kinda stopped watching at that point because we were laughing so hard.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" id=\"TB_Image\" src=\"http:\/\/www.z\u00fcridrift.ch\/wp-content\/gallery\/ids-amp-edc-finals-29-10-2010-part-2\/Pic23.jpg?1212167457\" alt=\"Pic23.jpg\" width=\"598\" height=\"313\" \/><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Wing must be higher than your roof!<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Next battle, Swen was leading. Juha was hanging on his ass the entire run. It looked very funny since Juha could only use like 5% of his power or he\u2019d ram Swen right off the track, while the little Corolla was going fuuuull throttle!<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" id=\"TB_Image\" src=\"http:\/\/www.z\u00fcridrift.ch\/wp-content\/gallery\/ids-amp-edc-finals-29-10-2010-part-2\/Pic24.jpg?1834222960\" alt=\"Pic24.jpg\" width=\"601\" height=\"399\" \/><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">AE86 lift-off! Awesomeeee<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Obviously, Swen lost this battle and was out. He showed a great performance, but the difference in power was far too much on this high-speed uphill track.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" id=\"TB_Image\" src=\"http:\/\/www.z\u00fcridrift.ch\/wp-content\/gallery\/ids-amp-edc-finals-29-10-2010-part-2\/Pic25.jpg?235032194\" alt=\"Pic25.jpg\" width=\"598\" height=\"326\" \/><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">An awesome performance by Swen&#8230; unfortunately his opponent had 2 or 3 more horsepowers<\/span><\/p>\n<p>We felt terribly sorry for poor Swen after the battle. OK actually we didn\u2019t, but good job anyway man! Next up was Toby, going up against Benno Frieden from DriftTeam Switzerland. Both Benno and Toby are experienced drifters, so this could be a tough call.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" id=\"TB_Image\" src=\"http:\/\/www.z\u00fcridrift.ch\/wp-content\/gallery\/ids-amp-edc-finals-29-10-2010-part-2\/Pic26.jpg?879078877\" alt=\"Pic26.jpg\" width=\"598\" height=\"348\" \/><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><em>One\u00a0part on Toby&#8217;s\u00a0front end\u00a0was missing&#8230; but how did that happen?<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Benno was leading first, and pulled a 7:3 advantage on the first run. On Toby\u2019s leading run, he managed to build a nice gap to Benno going into the Schumacher corners with superior speed. Unfortunately, he spun out at the uphill transition, handing the win to Benno.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" id=\"TB_Image\" src=\"http:\/\/www.z\u00fcridrift.ch\/wp-content\/gallery\/ids-amp-edc-finals-29-10-2010-part-2\/Pic14.jpg?749294831\" alt=\"Pic14.jpg\" width=\"598\" height=\"352\" \/><br \/>\n<em><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">&#8230; ah right that&#8217;s how! noooo bumper crashuuuu<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p>It wasn\u2019t looking good, Toby was now out of the EDC competition as well. I was the last man standing, going into the Top16 battle against Alexander R\u00f6sch in his big E39 BMW M5.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" id=\"TB_Image\" src=\"http:\/\/www.z\u00fcridrift.ch\/wp-content\/gallery\/ids-amp-edc-finals-29-10-2010-part-2\/Pic28.jpg?2138415963\" alt=\"Pic28.jpg\" width=\"598\" height=\"281\" \/><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Next up was me against Alexander R\u00f6sch in the white E39 M5. No pic, sorry!<\/span><\/p>\n<p>He was leading for the first run. I managed to keep up with him to the end of the run, and it turned out I had the advantage now!<\/p>\n<p>For the second run, I tried the usual business of betting on a fast line carrying much speed to outrun my opponent. It seemed to work, as Alex had trouble following my entry into the Schumacher corners.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" id=\"TB_Image\" src=\"http:\/\/www.z\u00fcridrift.ch\/wp-content\/gallery\/ids-amp-edc-finals-29-10-2010-part-2\/Pic29.jpg?1540728155\" alt=\"Pic29.jpg\" width=\"598\" height=\"398\" \/><\/p>\n<p>I was awarded the win and advanced to the Top8 battles. Wohoo! Confidence was on the max after the win, so I wasn\u2019t too scared at first when I saw my opponent which was in my eyes \u201canother BMW dude from somewhere\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Just after we launched off for the warmup run I had to rethink because that guys speed and technique was insane!! He initiated very early and with a very aggressive flick. When I saw him flicking it in so angrily, I thought \u201cHey I can do that too!!\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" id=\"TB_Image\" src=\"http:\/\/www.z\u00fcridrift.ch\/wp-content\/gallery\/ids-amp-edc-finals-29-10-2010-part-2\/Pic30.jpg?1799386379\" alt=\"Pic30.jpg\" width=\"598\" height=\"366\" \/><br \/>\n<em><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">I fucked up the warmup run against Nagy<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p>Unforunately, it wasn&#8217;t my day. I lost control by overdoing it with the angle afer the flick and hit the gravel pit hard and backwards. Great mental preparation for the battle. Gotta learn to hold back my temper.<\/p>\n<p>So my opponent wasn\u2019t some random foreign guy, but in fact Adam Nagy using some magical monster BMW. We launched off for the real battle.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" id=\"TB_Image\" src=\"http:\/\/www.z\u00fcridrift.ch\/wp-content\/gallery\/ids-amp-edc-finals-29-10-2010-part-2\/Pic32.jpg?704691315\" alt=\"Pic32.jpg\" width=\"598\" height=\"347\" \/><\/p>\n<p>1st gear, shift up, 2nd gear, shift up, 3rd gear, full throttle and get ready for the Dunlop corner. Initiate the drift as early as possible carrying lots of speed\u2026 I didn\u2019t follow his angry flick and just tried my own line. I managed to keep up on the first corner with a later entry.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" id=\"TB_Image\" src=\"http:\/\/www.z\u00fcridrift.ch\/wp-content\/gallery\/ids-amp-edc-finals-29-10-2010-part-2\/Pic34.jpg?378702728\" alt=\"Pic34.jpg\" width=\"598\" height=\"398\" \/><\/p>\n<p>We were now on the uphill section, building speed. Full throttle in 2<sup>nd<\/sup> gear, go into 3<sup>rd<\/sup> , full throttle. Initiate just as you hit the limiter in 3<sup>rd<\/sup> gear at around 155 km\/h. Don\u2019t get nervous, it\u2019s tempting to pussy out and release the throttle or initiate too early to get rid of the anticipation. Be calm and wait for <em>that <\/em>moment.<\/p>\n<p>There&#8217;s lots 0of grip here, so don\u2019t just handbrake but use a Scandinavian flick or weight shift to really get it sideways or you will straighten out!<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" id=\"TB_Image\" src=\"http:\/\/www.z\u00fcridrift.ch\/wp-content\/gallery\/ids-amp-edc-finals-29-10-2010-part-2\/Pic33.jpg?2146358147\" alt=\"Pic33.jpg\" width=\"598\" height=\"334\" \/><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">3rd gear entry at full throttle at the Schumacher S<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Throw it in HARD, control the throttle and steering to keep it on the racing line, almost hitting the inner curb with your front wheels. Don\u2019t go full throttle for too long or you will smear toward the outer curb, hit the gravel pit sideways. But don\u2019t fully release the throttle or you will straighten out, hit the gravel pit frontally and that would kinda suck too.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" id=\"TB_Image\" src=\"http:\/\/www.z\u00fcridrift.ch\/wp-content\/gallery\/ids-amp-edc-finals-29-10-2010-part-2\/Pic36.jpg?1269125309\" alt=\"Pic36.jpg\" width=\"601\" height=\"399\" \/><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Switch to the other side, staying in 3rd gear&#8230;<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Now, briefly release the throttle to switch to the other side. But just for an instant, or you will straighten out again. Now, full throttle to reach the next transition!<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" id=\"TB_Image\" src=\"http:\/\/www.z\u00fcridrift.ch\/wp-content\/gallery\/ids-amp-edc-finals-29-10-2010-part-2\/Pic37.jpg?176378188\" alt=\"Pic37.jpg\" width=\"598\" height=\"319\" \/><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Be ready to brake for the low-speed transition since you&#8217;re coming in full speed at that point<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Prepare for the low-speed uphill transition. You must be ready to brake HARD or your will smear off and fail. But don\u2019t brake to hard or you will lose the drift and fail! Always watch your opponent in front of you, don\u2019t run into him or you will crash and fail! But don\u2019t let him get away either or you will be shaken off and fail as well. Yes, a drift battle offers huge potential to fail so better be prepared!<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" id=\"TB_Image\" src=\"http:\/\/www.z\u00fcridrift.ch\/wp-content\/gallery\/ids-amp-edc-finals-29-10-2010-part-2\/Pic27.jpg?1100099741\" alt=\"Pic27.jpg\" width=\"598\" height=\"370\" \/><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Lots of angle and smoke trough the uphill transition but be ready for the trickiest corner<\/span><\/p>\n<p>After the uphill transition prepare to really step on it to build enough speed to reach that final corner. It always feels uncomfortable, like it\u2019s too far away to reach. But with reduced angle and a good line it becomes possible to connect it directly!<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" id=\"TB_Image\" src=\"http:\/\/www.z\u00fcridrift.ch\/wp-content\/gallery\/ids-amp-edc-finals-29-10-2010-part-2\/Pic35.jpg?26261396\" alt=\"Pic35.jpg\" width=\"598\" height=\"363\" \/><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Still on the uphill, smoking it up<\/span><\/p>\n<p>But be careful since this part is downhill and you can spin out easily trying to get enough speed to reach that crucial last clipping point. If you manage to keep it together until here, you\u2019re golden. Just stabilize the car, pull to the apex of the last corner to hit the clipping point then go fuuuull throttle with lots of smoke to reach the goal.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" id=\"TB_Image\" src=\"http:\/\/www.z\u00fcridrift.ch\/wp-content\/gallery\/ids-amp-edc-finals-29-10-2010-part-2\/Pic31.jpg?660163593\" alt=\"Pic31.jpg\" width=\"598\" height=\"398\" \/><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Aim for that crucial last clipping point indicated by the cone<\/span><\/p>\n<p>One lap N\u00fcrburgring M\u00fchlebachschleife \u2013 done.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" id=\"TB_Image\" src=\"http:\/\/www.z\u00fcridrift.ch\/wp-content\/gallery\/ids-amp-edc-finals-29-10-2010-part-2\/Pic39.jpg?983598078\" alt=\"Pic39.jpg\" width=\"598\" height=\"306\" \/><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">The battles started heating up more and more. Oliver Harsch against the Drift Monkey going close!<\/span><\/p>\n<p>In this particular case, I failed since Adam Nagy was just faster than me. He built a gap of around 6 car lengths till the end so I couldn\u2019t entirely keep up with him.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" id=\"TB_Image\" src=\"http:\/\/www.z\u00fcridrift.ch\/wp-content\/gallery\/ids-amp-edc-finals-29-10-2010-part-2\/Pic40.jpg?1337883121\" alt=\"Pic40.jpg\" width=\"598\" height=\"333\" \/><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Michael Sahli was going head on against the Drift Monkey from Norway as well..<\/span><\/p>\n<p>For my leading battle, I just tried to go absolutely mental and shake him off but I couldn\u2019t. He kept a safe 3 car length distance to me from beginning to end and took home a solid win. He showed impressive driving, especially his entry into the Dunlop corner was ridiculous!<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" id=\"TB_Image\" src=\"http:\/\/www.z\u00fcridrift.ch\/wp-content\/gallery\/ids-amp-edc-finals-29-10-2010-part-2\/Pic38.jpg?804682193\" alt=\"Pic38.jpg\" width=\"601\" height=\"399\" \/><br \/>\n<em><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Rohan in the white &amp; orange BMW as usual chasing his opponents very very closely<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p>I knew I had lost the battle even before the judges gave their votes. Congratulations to all of you, especially to Markus Milizer who I believe has not been on the IDS podium so far! he showed incredibly consistent driving troughout the weekend!<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" id=\"TB_Image\" src=\"http:\/\/www.z\u00fcridrift.ch\/wp-content\/gallery\/ids-amp-edc-finals-29-10-2010-part-2\/Pic44.jpg?963393166\" alt=\"Pic44.jpg\" width=\"601\" height=\"399\" \/><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Markus Militzer in the red M3 was showing an awesome performance all weekend<\/span><\/p>\n<p>In the Falken EDC Top32, 1<sup>st<\/sup> place went to Remmo Niezen (again!), 2<sup>nd<\/sup> place to Adam Nagy and 3<sup>rd<\/sup> place to Benno Frieden! Swen and myself did not qualify so that sucked.<\/p>\n<p>In the EDC Top32, I got 5<sup>th<\/sup> place, Toby 24<sup>th<\/sup> place and Swen an unfortunate 32<sup>nd<\/sup> place against the 700hp star destroyer.<\/p>\n<p>In the street class, Don Icon grabbed a solid 15th place. However a big surprise was Philippe Guillod who got a 2nd place podium finish place in the street class!! We left the action just when I decided it could be a good idea to lose control of the S14 in the slippery conditions and ram head on into the gravel! Let me tell you, heavy gravel impact isn\u2019t good mental preparation for the qualifying runs. Toby still needed to do his qualifiers as well. I then remembered I still had my tires mounted the wrong way around to save rubber the day before. Shit.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" id=\"TB_Image\" src=\"http:\/\/www.z\u00fcridrift.ch\/wp-content\/gallery\/ids-amp-edc-finals-29-10-2010-part-2\/Pic3.jpg?929429242\" alt=\"Pic3.jpg\" width=\"598\" height=\"300\" \/><\/p>\n<p><em><\/em>That\u2019s probably why the car felt more unstable than Amy Winehouse during drug therapy. I launched off for the first of three qualifiers and felt almost as scared as last time at IDS Round 2 when I had to run a drift battle while semi-drunk. But there was no time to think about that now..<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" id=\"TB_Image\" src=\"http:\/\/www.z\u00fcridrift.ch\/wp-content\/gallery\/ids-amp-edc-finals-29-10-2010-part-2\/Pic4.jpg?1408877061\" alt=\"Pic4.jpg\" width=\"601\" height=\"399\" \/><br \/>\n<em><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Where did the track go?<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p>Here\u2019s the rundown of my most horrible qualification experience ever:<\/p>\n<p> &#8211; Run 1: Initiate with only ~60% speed and high optimism. It was still too fast, as I hit the gravel pit hard (again)! Zero points, lamer.<br \/>\n&#8211;  Run 2: Initiate slower than a granny in an electric wheelchair, then proceed to geeeently slide over the wet track with less speed than a canal boat. Very little points, lamer.<br \/>\n&#8211;  Run 3: Initiate more bravely again, somehow keep it on the track with acceptable speed till the final corner but then spin out just before the finish! Aaaaahhh!!! Zero points, lamer.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" id=\"TB_Image\" src=\"http:\/\/www.z\u00fcridrift.ch\/wp-content\/gallery\/ids-amp-edc-finals-29-10-2010-part-2\/Pic6.jpg?1453628503\" alt=\"Pic6.jpg\" width=\"598\" height=\"322\" \/><\/p>\n<p> Oh my. Normally I manage to pull off at least one of the three runs up to my expectations. This time, I didn\u2019t pull off jack shit. Just after these laps, I was pretty much certain I would not qualify into the IDS Top16.  However, this qualifying also counted for the Falken EDC Top32 battles so there was still hope!<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" id=\"TB_Image\" src=\"http:\/\/www.z\u00fcridrift.ch\/wp-content\/gallery\/ids-amp-edc-finals-29-10-2010-part-2\/Pic5.jpg?1006152591\" alt=\"Pic5.jpg\" width=\"601\" height=\"399\" \/><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><em>Toby ran solid qualifications<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p> Toby\u2019s qualification didn\u2019t go as disastrous as mine \u2013 He managed to pull trough two solid laps and only spun out once.  Swen also ran in the qualifications \u2013 he had already done his qualifiers long before when the track was still dry, so we were wondering about those results.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" id=\"TB_Image\" src=\"http:\/\/www.z\u00fcridrift.ch\/wp-content\/gallery\/ids-amp-edc-finals-29-10-2010-part-2\/Pic7.jpg?1609480952\" alt=\"Pic7.jpg\" width=\"598\" height=\"311\" \/><\/p>\n<p> It was time to call it a day, but there was something special about today. Yes, it was Swen\u2019s birthday! What a lucky day for him. We proceeded to destroy him by partying hard at the \u201cEifeldorf\u201d, the N\u00fcrburgrings own danceclub. I\u2019m always amazed what the human body is capable of \u2013 after a long roadtrip, 2 full days of drifting, fixing cars, partying and not really sleeping or eating at all, we were still going strong for day 3! Woooo.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" id=\"TB_Image\" src=\"http:\/\/www.z\u00fcridrift.ch\/wp-content\/gallery\/ids-amp-edc-finals-29-10-2010-part-2\/Pic9.jpg?253159138\" alt=\"Pic9.jpg\" width=\"598\" height=\"398\" \/><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><em>Lazy fucking photographers. We need that space for backup tires!!<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p>I ripped open a big can of Red Bull and got cracking. In the morning, it was the IDS Top16 battles and then the EDC Top32 battles in the afternoon. So many battles, so little time!<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" id=\"TB_Image\" src=\"http:\/\/www.z\u00fcridrift.ch\/wp-content\/gallery\/ids-amp-edc-finals-29-10-2010-part-2\/XDSC_24.jpg?1389491977\" alt=\"XDSC_24.jpg\" width=\"601\" height=\"399\" \/><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><em>Mmmh&#8230; Red Bull for breakfast&#8230; <\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p>However the first bummer of the day came early. The qualification results list was released and just as expected I fucked up the qualifications the day before.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" id=\"TB_Image\" src=\"http:\/\/www.z\u00fcridrift.ch\/wp-content\/gallery\/ids-amp-edc-finals-29-10-2010-part-2\/Pic10.jpg?1349127629\" alt=\"Pic10.jpg\" width=\"495\" height=\"745\" \/><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><br \/>\n<em>Toby&#8217;s bumper needed some help from the legendary ziptie doctor<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p>I was sitting on 18th place, ruling me out of the IDS Top16 battles. It was enough for the EDC Top32 battles, but I would\u2019ve loved to run in some more IDS battles this season. Can\u2019t have it all I guess.<br \/>\nToby was in 14<sup>th<\/sup> place, so he made it into the IDS Top16. Nice going!<br \/>\nSwen was in 19<sup>h<\/sup> place, so he also barely missed the IDS Top16, noooo!<br \/>\nIcon and Philippe&#8217;s ranking in the Street class were not yet known<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" id=\"TB_Image\" src=\"http:\/\/www.z\u00fcridrift.ch\/wp-content\/gallery\/ids-amp-edc-finals-29-10-2010-part-2\/Pic11.jpg?1918415292\" alt=\"Pic11.jpg\" width=\"601\" height=\"399\" \/><br \/>\n<em><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Preparing for the IDS &amp; EDC battles&#8230;<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p>So only Toby would be running in any IDS battles this time. All three of us would then run in the EDC Top32 battles later on. Go Speed Industries!<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" id=\"TB_Image\" src=\"http:\/\/www.z\u00fcridrift.ch\/wp-content\/gallery\/ids-amp-edc-finals-29-10-2010-part-2\/Pic12.jpg?1537805523\" alt=\"Pic12.jpg\" width=\"598\" height=\"398\" \/><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Heey there Icon&#8230; having a little hangover?<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Toby got ready for the IDS Top16 and lined up his car with the other 15 drivers. He would go up against Lars Verbraeken in his E30 M3 racecar. Lars is a sponsored FALKEN tires driver, and FALKEN dudes tend to know how to drive.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" id=\"TB_Image\" src=\"http:\/\/www.z\u00fcridrift.ch\/wp-content\/gallery\/ids-amp-edc-finals-29-10-2010-part-2\/Pic13.jpg?354485779\" alt=\"Pic13.jpg\" width=\"598\" height=\"368\" \/><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Toby got a free win in his Top16 battle! <\/span><\/p>\n<p>But Toby got lucky because Lars Verbraeken\u2019s car had broken just earlier in the day so Toby automatically won the round and was in the Top8 already! Sweeet!<\/p>\n<p>The Top8 battle set Toby against Kees Kok. Toby kinda messed up the first run, giving his opponent the advantage. In the second run however, Toby stepped up his game and took the advantage back! Oh yeah, the judges asked for a ONE MORE TIME.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" id=\"TB_Image\" src=\"http:\/\/www.z\u00fcridrift.ch\/wp-content\/gallery\/ids-amp-edc-finals-29-10-2010-part-2\/Pic15.jpg?623644444\" alt=\"Pic15.jpg\" width=\"598\" height=\"290\" \/><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">He then managed to go &#8222;one more time&#8220; against Kees Kok<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Unfortunately, in the first one more time run, Toby had some faults in his line giving the advantage to his opponent again. In the second run, Toby finally fell, when his opponent pulled off a more solid run. See you at the EDC Top32! <\/span><\/p>\n<p>All our hopes now went to the EDC Top32 battles in the afternoon.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" id=\"TB_Image\" src=\"http:\/\/www.z\u00fcridrift.ch\/wp-content\/gallery\/ids-amp-edc-finals-29-10-2010-part-2\/Pic17.jpg?1296228355\" alt=\"Pic17.jpg\" width=\"494\" height=\"745\" \/><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Speed Industries signature BBQ recharges the batteries after hard battles!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Falken EDC Top32 Battles<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Lunch came and went as we fiddled with the cars to be ready for the EDC Top32.  All Speed Industries PRO class drivers had qualified and we were ready to rumble!<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" id=\"TB_Image\" src=\"http:\/\/www.z\u00fcridrift.ch\/wp-content\/gallery\/ids-amp-edc-finals-29-10-2010-part-2\/Pic18.jpg?690792119\" alt=\"Pic18.jpg\" width=\"601\" height=\"399\" \/><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Lunchtime shenanigans&#8230;<\/span><\/p>\n<p>They presented the list of opponents. This turned out to be really funny for two reasons:<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; My first opponent was Lars Verbraeken with the verbroken BMW. I would automatically win the first round since his car was unusable. Top16 here we goooo!!<br \/>\n&#8211; Swen who drives a 160hp Corolla had to go up against Juha Rinthanen, who actually <em>is<\/em> Darth Vader and drives the death star S14a with over 700 horsepowers<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" id=\"TB_Image\" src=\"http:\/\/www.z\u00fcridrift.ch\/wp-content\/gallery\/ids-amp-edc-finals-29-10-2010-part-2\/Pic19.jpg?1285351563\" alt=\"Pic19.jpg\" width=\"598\" height=\"315\" \/><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Lars Verbraekens car was broken, so he had to forfeit the battle against me..<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Toby and myself found this extremely amusing and cracked at least 80 jokes about Swens upcoming \u201cmission impossible\u201d battle. It was a David vs. Goliath situation, only that David from the story had a much higher chance to win.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" id=\"TB_Image\" src=\"http:\/\/www.z\u00fcridrift.ch\/wp-content\/gallery\/ids-amp-edc-finals-29-10-2010-part-2\/Pic22.jpg?842001133\" alt=\"Pic22.jpg\" width=\"437\" height=\"598\" \/><br \/>\n<em><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">&#8222;Aaaahhh I don&#8217;t wanna battle against that guy!!&#8220;<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p>Our shenanigans made Swen very angry which made everything even funnier. Swen lined up his little corolla next to Juha\u2019s star destroyer. Juha was leading for the first battle. He launched off with a rocket start, similar to a spaceship going into light speed. At the Dunlop corner, Swen was already 7 car lengths behind.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" id=\"TB_Image\" src=\"http:\/\/www.z\u00fcridrift.ch\/wp-content\/gallery\/ids-amp-edc-finals-29-10-2010-part-2\/Pic20.jpg?930095397\" alt=\"Pic20.jpg\" width=\"598\" height=\"336\" \/><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><em>Swen exiting the Dunlop corner, pulling absoluely everything out of his Corolla to keep up&#8230;<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p>The following uphill section widened the gap even more. The judges said the person with more power must wait for the slower car. But Juha was in race driver mode, shutting his brain off and just stepped on it with no mercy.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" id=\"TB_Image\" src=\"http:\/\/www.z\u00fcridrift.ch\/wp-content\/gallery\/ids-amp-edc-finals-29-10-2010-part-2\/Pic21.jpg?900642403\" alt=\"Pic21.jpg\" width=\"601\" height=\"399\" \/><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">&#8230;while Juha was already in a different time zone at the uphill transition<\/span><\/p>\n<p>The gap was now like 25 car lengths. By the time they finished their stint, the gap was about\u2026 oh I don\u2019t know 7 miles? We kinda stopped watching at that point because we were laughing so hard.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" id=\"TB_Image\" src=\"http:\/\/www.z\u00fcridrift.ch\/wp-content\/gallery\/ids-amp-edc-finals-29-10-2010-part-2\/Pic23.jpg?1212167457\" alt=\"Pic23.jpg\" width=\"598\" height=\"313\" \/><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Wing must be higher than your roof!<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Next battle, Swen was leading. Juha was hanging on his ass the entire run. It looked very funny since Juha could only use like 5% of his power or he\u2019d ram Swen right off the track, while the little Corolla was going fuuuull throttle!<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" id=\"TB_Image\" src=\"http:\/\/www.z\u00fcridrift.ch\/wp-content\/gallery\/ids-amp-edc-finals-29-10-2010-part-2\/Pic24.jpg?1834222960\" alt=\"Pic24.jpg\" width=\"601\" height=\"399\" \/><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">AE86 lift-off! Awesomeeee<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Obviously, Swen lost this battle and was out. OK actually we didn\u2019t, but good job anyway man! Next up was Toby, going up against Benno Frieden from DriftTeam Switzerland. Both Benno and Toby are experienced drifters, so this could be a tough call.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" id=\"TB_Image\" src=\"http:\/\/www.z\u00fcridrift.ch\/wp-content\/gallery\/ids-amp-edc-finals-29-10-2010-part-2\/Pic26.jpg?879078877\" alt=\"Pic26.jpg\" width=\"598\" height=\"348\" \/><br \/>\n<em><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Looking good&#8230; still looking good..<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p>Benno was leading first, and pulled a 7:3 advantage on the first run. On Toby\u2019s leading run, he managed to build a nice gap to Benno going into the Schumacher corners with superior speed. Bumper crashuuu<\/span><\/p>\n<p>It wasn\u2019t looking good, Toby was now out of the EDC competition as well. No pic, sorry!<\/span><\/p>\n<p>He was leading for the first run. I managed to keep up with him to the end of the run, and it turned out I had the advantage now!<\/p>\n<p>For the second run, I tried the usual business of betting on a fast line carrying much speed to outrun my opponent. It seemed to work, as Alex had trouble following my entry into the Schumacher corners.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" id=\"TB_Image\" src=\"http:\/\/www.z\u00fcridrift.ch\/wp-content\/gallery\/ids-amp-edc-finals-29-10-2010-part-2\/Pic29.jpg?1540728155\" alt=\"Pic29.jpg\" width=\"598\" height=\"398\" \/><\/p>\n<p>I was awarded the win and advanced to the Top8 battles. Wohoo! Confidence was on the max after the win, so I wasn\u2019t too scared at first when I saw my opponent which was in my eyes \u201canother BMW dude from somewhere\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Just after we launched off for the warmup run I had to rethink because that guys speed and technique was insane!! He initiated very early and with a very aggressive flick. When I saw him flicking it in so angrily, I thought \u201cHey I can do that too!!\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" id=\"TB_Image\" src=\"http:\/\/www.z\u00fcridrift.ch\/wp-content\/gallery\/ids-amp-edc-finals-29-10-2010-part-2\/Pic30.jpg?1799386379\" alt=\"Pic30.jpg\" width=\"598\" height=\"366\" \/><br \/>\n<em><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">I fucked up the warmup run against Nagy<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p>Unforunately, it wasn&#8217;t my day. I lost control by overdoing it with the angle afer the flick and hit the gravel pit hard and backwards. Great mental preparation for the battle. Gotta learn to hold back my temper.<\/p>\n<p>So my opponent wasn\u2019t some random foreign guy, but in fact Adam Nagy using some magical monster BMW. We launched off for the real battle.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" id=\"TB_Image\" src=\"http:\/\/www.z\u00fcridrift.ch\/wp-content\/gallery\/ids-amp-edc-finals-29-10-2010-part-2\/Pic32.jpg?704691315\" alt=\"Pic32.jpg\" width=\"598\" height=\"347\" \/><\/p>\n<p>1st gear, shift up, 2nd gear, shift up, 3rd gear, full throttle and get ready for the Dunlop corner. Initiate the drift as early as possible carrying lots of speed\u2026 I didn\u2019t follow his angry flick and just tried my own line. I managed to keep up on the first corner with a later entry.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" id=\"TB_Image\" src=\"http:\/\/www.z\u00fcridrift.ch\/wp-content\/gallery\/ids-amp-edc-finals-29-10-2010-part-2\/Pic34.jpg?378702728\" alt=\"Pic34.jpg\" width=\"598\" height=\"398\" \/><\/p>\n<p>We were now on the uphill section, building speed. Full throttle in 2<sup>nd<\/sup> gear, go into 3<sup>rd<\/sup> , full throttle. Initiate just as you hit the limiter in 3<sup>rd<\/sup> gear at around 155 km\/h. Don\u2019t get nervous, it\u2019s tempting to pussy out and release the throttle or initiate too early to get rid of the anticipation. Be calm and wait for <em>that <\/em>moment.<\/p>\n<p>There&#8217;s lots 0of grip here, so don\u2019t just handbrake but use a Scandinavian flick or weight shift to really get it sideways or you will straighten out!<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" id=\"TB_Image\" src=\"http:\/\/www.z\u00fcridrift.ch\/wp-content\/gallery\/ids-amp-edc-finals-29-10-2010-part-2\/Pic33.jpg?2146358147\" alt=\"Pic33.jpg\" width=\"598\" height=\"334\" \/><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">3rd gear entry at full throttle at the Schumacher S<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Throw it in HARD, control the throttle and steering to keep it on the racing line, almost hitting the inner curb with your front wheels. Don\u2019t go full throttle for too long or you will smear toward the outer curb, hit the gravel pit sideways. But don\u2019t fully release the throttle or you will straighten out,  hit the gravel pit frontally and that would kinda suck too.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" id=\"TB_Image\" src=\"http:\/\/www.z\u00fcridrift.ch\/wp-content\/gallery\/ids-amp-edc-finals-29-10-2010-part-2\/Pic36.jpg?1269125309\" alt=\"Pic36.jpg\" width=\"601\" height=\"399\" \/><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Switch to the other side, staying in 3rd gear&#8230;<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Now, briefly release the throttle to switch to the other side. But just for an instant, or you will straighten out again. Now, full throttle to reach the next transition!<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" id=\"TB_Image\" src=\"http:\/\/www.z\u00fcridrift.ch\/wp-content\/gallery\/ids-amp-edc-finals-29-10-2010-part-2\/Pic37.jpg?176378188\" alt=\"Pic37.jpg\" width=\"598\" height=\"319\" \/><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Be ready to brake for the low-speed transition since you&#8217;re coming in full speed at that point<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Prepare for the low-speed uphill transition. You must be ready to brake HARD or your will smear off and fail. But don\u2019t brake to hard or you will lose the drift and fail! Always watch your opponent in front of you, don\u2019t run into him or you will crash and fail! But don\u2019t let him get away either or you will be shaken off and fail as well. Yes, a drift battle offers huge potential to fail so better be prepared!<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" id=\"TB_Image\" src=\"http:\/\/www.z\u00fcridrift.ch\/wp-content\/gallery\/ids-amp-edc-finals-29-10-2010-part-2\/Pic27.jpg?1100099741\" alt=\"Pic27.jpg\" width=\"598\" height=\"370\" \/><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Lots of angle and smoke trough the uphill transition but be ready for the trickiest corner<\/span><\/p>\n<p>After the uphill transition prepare to really step on it to build enough speed to reach that final corner. It always feels uncomfortable, like it\u2019s too far away to reach. But with reduced angle and a good line it becomes possible to connect it directly!<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" id=\"TB_Image\" src=\"http:\/\/www.z\u00fcridrift.ch\/wp-content\/gallery\/ids-amp-edc-finals-29-10-2010-part-2\/Pic35.jpg?26261396\" alt=\"Pic35.jpg\" width=\"598\" height=\"363\" \/><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Still on the uphill, smoking it up<\/span><\/p>\n<p>But be careful since this part is downhill and you can spin out easily trying to get enough speed to reach that crucial last clipping point. If you manage to keep it together until here, you\u2019re golden. Just stabilize the car, pull to the apex of the last corner to hit the clipping point then go fuuuull throttle with lots of smoke to reach the goal.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" id=\"TB_Image\" src=\"http:\/\/www.z\u00fcridrift.ch\/wp-content\/gallery\/ids-amp-edc-finals-29-10-2010-part-2\/Pic31.jpg?660163593\" alt=\"Pic31.jpg\" width=\"598\" height=\"398\" \/><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Aim for that crucial last clipping point indicated by the cone<\/span><\/p>\n<p>One lap N\u00fcrburgring M\u00fchlebachschleife \u2013 done.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" id=\"TB_Image\" src=\"http:\/\/www.z\u00fcridrift.ch\/wp-content\/gallery\/ids-amp-edc-finals-29-10-2010-part-2\/Pic39.jpg?983598078\" alt=\"Pic39.jpg\" width=\"598\" height=\"306\" \/><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">The battles started heating up more and more. Oliver Harsch against the Drift Monkey going close!<\/span><\/p>\n<p>In this particular case, I failed since Adam Nagy was just faster than me. He built a gap of around 6 car lengths till the end so I couldn\u2019t entirely keep up with him.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" id=\"TB_Image\" src=\"http:\/\/www.z\u00fcridrift.ch\/wp-content\/gallery\/ids-amp-edc-finals-29-10-2010-part-2\/Pic40.jpg?1337883121\" alt=\"Pic40.jpg\" width=\"598\" height=\"333\" \/><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Michael Sahli was going head on against the Drift Monkey from Norway as well..<\/span><\/p>\n<p>For my leading battle, I just tried to go absolutely mental and shake him off but I couldn\u2019t. He kept a safe 3 car length distance to me from beginning to end and took home a solid win. He showed impressive driving,  especially his entry into the Dunlop corner was ridiculous!<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" id=\"TB_Image\" src=\"http:\/\/www.z\u00fcridrift.ch\/wp-content\/gallery\/ids-amp-edc-finals-29-10-2010-part-2\/Pic38.jpg?804682193\" alt=\"Pic38.jpg\" width=\"601\" height=\"399\" \/><br \/>\n<em><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Rohan in the white &amp; orange BMW as usual chasing his opponents very very closely<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p>I knew I had lost the battle even before the judges gave their votes. Swen and myself did not qualify so that sucked.<\/p>\n<p>In the EDC Top32, I got 5<sup>th<\/sup> place, Toby 24<sup>th<\/sup> place and Swen an unfortunate 32<sup>nd<\/sup> place against the 700hp star destroyer.<\/p>\n<p>In the street class, Don Icon grabbed a solid 15th place. However a big surprise was Philippe Guillod who got a 2nd place podium finish place in the street class!!
