As the recent weather around here has been much more like summer than spring these pictures fit even better!<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" title=\"IMG_1581.jpg\" src=\"https:\/\/www.speed-industries.ch\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/05\/IMG_1581.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"598\" \/><br \/>\n<em>that&#8217;s the kind of scenery we spent two days driving around in.. <\/em><\/p>\n<p>Originally, the main motivation for the trip (besides it being totally awesome anyway) was for Alok to do a Speedhunters report for their driving month. Unfortunately, that report barely missed making it into driving month but has now been released in three parts: <a href=\"http:\/\/speedhunters.com\/archive\/2011\/03\/29\/roadway-davos-fl-220-ela-stelvio.aspx\">Part I<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/speedhunters.com\/archive\/2011\/04\/03\/car-life-gt-gt-davos-fl-220-ela-stelvio-part-ii.aspx\">Part II<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/speedhunters.com\/archive\/2011\/05\/05\/roadways-gt-gt-davos-fl-220-ela-stelvio-part-iii.aspx\">Part III<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" title=\"IMG_1598.jpg\" src=\"https:\/\/www.speed-industries.ch\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/05\/IMG_1598.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"598\" \/><br \/>\n<em>right from the beginning there was a lot of shutter clicking going on<\/em><\/p>\n<p>All we had planned was to do at least the Fl\u00fcela\/Ofenpass\/Stelvio route completely, as it is probably my favourite route ever and I&#8217;ve driven it a lot of times. Also, it happened to be crowned &#8222;Best Driving Road&#8220; by a small english TV show called &#8222;Pot Gear&#8220; or something, you might have heard of it before.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" title=\"IMG_1621.jpg\" src=\"https:\/\/www.speed-industries.ch\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/05\/IMG_1621.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"598\" \/><br \/>\n<em>on the &#8222;other&#8220; side of the Fl\u00fcela pass, the scooby&#8217;s in paradise!<\/em><\/p>\n<p>What we agreed on from the beginning was to not make any more plans and not to look at the time at all but just to drive, stop and take pictures whenever we felt like it. This was Alok&#8217;s idea and it&#8217;s perfect for a trip like that. It was also a nice contrast to our usual deadline-covered and schedule-infested everyday lives. So we didn&#8217;t spend all our time driving but also took a lot of breaks, walking across a few rivers and stuff.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" title=\"IMG_1710.jpg\" src=\"https:\/\/www.speed-industries.ch\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/05\/IMG_1710.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"598\" \/><br \/>\n<em>sometimes a good 2WD ..erm.. 2FD can be better than 4WD \ud83d\ude1b <\/em><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" title=\"IMG_1731.jpg\" src=\"https:\/\/www.speed-industries.ch\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/05\/IMG_1731.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"598\" \/><br \/>\n<em>1 second after that pic he smashed that rock with his head, I swear!!<\/em><\/p>\n<p>I don&#8217;t wanna do a full trip report here as you can find that on Speedhunters by Alok.. so I&#8217;m just gonna pick out a few more parts of the trip with the corresponding pictures.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" title=\"IMG_1679.jpg\" src=\"https:\/\/www.speed-industries.ch\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/05\/IMG_1679.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"598\" \/><br \/>\n<em>to restrict oneself to the essentials can be the key to a good story.. \ud83d\ude1b <\/em><\/p>\n<p>So after driving around all day we were targeting to hit the top of the Stelvio Pass at dusk of the first day, as the very beginning and end of a day are the best times for photography. Alok got really cool shots up there which you should definitely check out on Speedhunters! \ud83d\ude42 I didn&#8217;t really take pics up there, as I was mainly busy driving the awesome roads (thank god Alok didn&#8217;t have a driving licence back then so there were no awkward discussions in this direction \ud83d\ude1b ) but I did get this:<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" title=\"IMG_1839.jpg\" src=\"https:\/\/www.speed-industries.ch\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/05\/IMG_1839.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"598\" \/><br \/>\n<em>yeah that scooby again, I know&#8230; sorry, can&#8217;t stop. This is actually near the top of the Umbrail that leads you to the Stelvio comming from the Ofenpass<\/em><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" title=\"IMG_1865.jpg\" src=\"https:\/\/www.speed-industries.ch\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/05\/IMG_1865.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"598\" \/><br \/>\n<em>Of course we just had to leave a sticker on that Stelvio sign at the top! I hope it&#8217;s still there, would be AWESOME if someone spotted it and told me!!<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The blast back to our flat we have up there in a town called Sent was awesome too, as I had all the roads to myself with noone else being out up there after it gest dark it seems. But soon the next day, the sun was out in full force again!<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" title=\"IMG_2025.jpg\" src=\"https:\/\/www.speed-industries.ch\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/05\/IMG_2025.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"598\" \/><br \/>\n<em>lots of funny effects that could be described by complicated formulae going on in this picture. Don&#8217;t care.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" title=\"IMG_2055.jpg\" src=\"https:\/\/www.speed-industries.ch\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/05\/IMG_2055.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"598\" \/><br \/>\n<em>The large amount of sun energy even enabled Alok to levitate his camera!<\/em><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/player.vimeo.com\/video\/23284653?title=0&amp;byline=0&amp;portrait=0\" width=\"598\" height=\"336\" frameborder=\"0\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>One thing we did on day two was to cross THAT tunnel to get to Livigno, a small Italian town near the border which has the one remarkable feature of being completely tax-free. This weirdly enough caused me to buy a wide-angle Sigma lens as well as some other camera gear. There&#8217;s a really cool picture of me taking a pic of the whole car while almost touching it on speedhunters.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>After that episode, that also included some wannabe-rally gravel driving on my part for the camera, we hit the road again aiming for Zurich, but not without stopping a few more times on the Fl\u00fcela we still had to cross to get even more pictures.
