Driver Presentation: Andreas LanzDriver Presentation: Andreas Lanz

I met Andi the first time at some slalom race a few years back. I heard some stories about him and his Ae86 being quite fast and after seeing him and his bullet the first time I was sure there was nothing wrong about those stories.

Andi started racing at the age of 10. Yes you read right, he started racing downhill at that age of 10 with a soap box. So no engine but still doing slaloms downhill. This continued for the next 5 years and the bug was there.

6 years later he made his first track appearance with his MA70 Supra at Anneau du Rhin. This put the bug on fire and the year after he participated in his first slalom race still with the Supra in the mighty 3000ccm plus class.

The year after he realized that the Supra might be a bit too heavy and switched to a Suzuki Swift MK1. He drove in the Yokohama Cup and got his first podium finishes and some experience with hill climbs. This went on for the next 2 years and he couldn’t stop it no more.

But then he wanted a change and needed a proper drivers car, something rear wheel drive: an AE86. 🙂

In the first years with the hachiroku he participated in a class with rather small modifications allowed but went all in and participated in up to 22 races a year. This brought him more and more victories.

After 3 years going in this class he wanted to step his game up and entered a class where there are much more serious cars and much more modifications allowed.

He started great into the new season with an 11th place right away and continued like this in various racing series over the next few years. He drove in the swiss slalom championship, swiss hill climb championship for touring cars and various single hill climbs.

In 2006 he unfortunately totaled his Hachiroku during a hill climb but stepped out of the car unharmed. Not letting this take him down he started to build his daily AE86 into a new race car and after a buildup of one year he was back in 2008 with a new faster car.

This new car also brought him his first victory in the top class at the hill climb of Massongex.
That AE86 is really crazy. It has 210hp, only 780kg, sequential box, the whole shabaang. Really one of the illest AE86 I have seen so far.

After a break last year Andi is now back for 2011 in full attack mode and I am sure he will be one driver to look out for. Make sure to drop by at one of his races during the swiss slalom and hillclimb races.

We are sure Andi will represent Speed Industries in the proper way with his driving.I met Andi the first time at some slalom race a few years back.
