Corner Talk: Drivers which inspired meCorner Talk: Drivers which inspired me

Hi guys

This week we presented to you most of our team drivers and some are still to come. What I want to do is present you some of my favorite drivers who inspired me to driver harder every time, gave me inputs and helped me grow as a driver.

When I was little my dad was always watching Formula 1 on the weekends and him and his friends were always raving about Senna, Prost etc. Me myself I was never into Formula 1, I was (and still are) thinking that this is too far away from the real world. I was more interested in racing with cars that are closer to what you can actually buy. I also liked drifting although I had no idea what it was but it just looked cool and like lots of fun. So naturally I started to follow Rallying. The first drivers I really liked were Carlos Sainz, emotional guy from Spain and Colin Mc Rae aka Colin Mc Crash.

I still remember the scene where Sainz lost the champion 200m in front of the finish line in the last race of the season due to an engine failure. He got out of the car and his heart was obviously broken by what heppened. Probably the worst thing that can happen to a driver.

Sainz is still going hard in Rally Raid and the Dakar these days. Might be the natural evolution when you grow older to do more endurance stuff.

Mc Rae was a bit different. He was always driving so much on the edge that he crashed lots and lots of Rally cars. This also gave him his name Colin Mc Crash. But when he did not crash he was always one of the fastest.

I really liked him in the 99/00 Impreza. That was a huge inspiration for me and one of the reasons I bought my first Impreza.
Unfortunatley he died in a helicopter crash in 2007. He will never be forgotten though.

Later on I discovered drifting and obviously I encountered the Dori King online. I was really fascinated by what he was doing and started to get more into it.

Of course we all know various movies from him and I reckon he inspired most of the drift community at some point.

In 2008 I organized my first drift event in France and a guy named Dino Rockstroh turned up in his white Nissan S14. We started to chat and became good friends.

He was the first drifter I rode shotgun. I was really impressed at all the different techniques he used in a very natural and fast way. Back then I was overwhelmed and thought if I would get to that point one day I would be happy like the prince of Zamunda after the little king cleaning. 🙂

Today I still look up to a lot of drivers from the past and today.
I am always happy to ride shotgun and learn from other drivers and get an insight into their driving.

Who are your biggest role models when it comes to driving?
Let us know.
