Driver presentation: Chris W. / RedlinerDriver presentation: Chris W. / Redliner

Today I have the pleasure to present you: Chris W. aka Redliner.

A few years back I heard a rumour about a little Suzuki Swift with monstrous power who eats porsche and other high-performance cars on the straights for breakfeast. Another year had to pass until I got know the person responsible for that car. But lets start from the beginning:

I got to know Chris as a great person. He’s very enthusiastic about cars, be it during tech-talk, working in his garage under the car, or driving on a nice piece of road. Chris is also a very selfless guy who helps out his friends, sacrificing lots of private time to work on the cars of others. He currently drives a RB25 powered S13, but more on this later.

One of the extraordinary things about Chris is that he aquired a huge knowledge in working on cars over the years. It started by modifying the 2-stroke engine on his motorcycle at age 14. And now he has finished his latest project, the RB25 S13. He never learned any of that in school or at work. He learned it the hard way: All by himself, impressive !

Here’s a list of the cars he had in the past. And as far as I know, this mad bastard heavily modified them all. And we’re not talking chromed wheel hubs and a mickey mouse cupholder here. Mental high-power setups including engine swaps like in his last project are a must ! Yep, thats the famous Swift you see on the lower right. Unfortunally Chris had already sold the car before I got to know him.. 🙁

Lets talk a bit more about his car at the moment, the awesome Nissan 200sx S13 powered by a Nissan Skyline RB25 engine. Chris has worked over 1000 hours on the conversion and made numurous custom parts by himself. I dont know the specs exactly, but what I do know is that I never saw such a clean engine swap. The old cable tree is gone completely, and every detail has been taken care of. It looks like the engine was there since it rolled out of the factory!

looks bone stock like out of the factory, doesnt it 😉

The other thing I know is how this beast runs. I had the pleasure to ride on the passanger seat many times, be it on tours through the Black Forest (Germany), or on trackdays. Chris even let me drive it on my own at Anneau du Rhin, our home track. This car is crazy, I have never experienced such strong acceleration before. This thing pulls hard already at 3000 rpm and doesnt stop right before the 8000rpm redline. The feeling going from zero to warpspeed in no time is beyond words. And the second thing is the noise, its the distinctive sound of a Skyline engine with open intake and exhaust, it gives me goosebumbs everytime I hear it.

Chris is not only a good mechanic but also a good driver. When you sit next to him you feel that he has a background of ten years of quick driving. He always knows what he is doing and I never felt uncomfortable in the passenger seat. (which doesn’t happen to me often!)

One thing that I find interesting is that on one hand he cares very much about his car and doesn’t want to damage it in any way. On the other hand, when he’s driving he doesnt go easy on the car at all. At drift sessions he’s throwing the car into the corners like a crazy japanese kamikaze pilot, hanging on the rev limiter constantly. Its a pleasure to see the car being used as it should be, not just sitting in the garage because it could get damaged on a racetrack.

I think Chris also has a great balance between working on his cars and driving them. I know so many people who startet projects but never came to the point of driving the car. Or the other extreme like me, always drive and never work on the car 🙂 Chris knows what he wants, plans it and finishes the work and then uses the car alot. Anyone around him can tell him to get this upgrade or modify that. He doesn’t fall into the trap of endless upgrading, which will always end with losing the focus of actually driving it.

I did a little photoshoot of the car last year so enjoy the pictures. More information on the car can be found in this SpeedHunters Blogpost where the car was featured recently!

So thank you Chris for being a great member of the Team. And also being a good friend on the racetrack, on a sunday cruise, or at an afterwork beer ! Cheers !
