Photo Friday – Geneva 2011Photo Friday – Geneva 2011

Last friday, I made the trip to Geneva for the fifth consecutive year. While I by far prefer to be at a racetrack with ruber and bodyparts flying past my ears, it’s become a bit of a tradition to go to Geneva with a few friends to look at what’s new. Being mechanical engineers in the making, we also like to test whether all the guys and girls standing around by the cars have made their homework and know anything about the lumps of metall (and recently lithium-ions, hydrogen, carbonfibre, carbotitanium and what not..) they’re supposed to present. This years crop didn’t fare so well, although everyone had clearly been told to tell you about how suppreme their hybrids are. Not really my cup of tea though.. As always at car shows I didn’t take too many pics, as also in this case I prefer to catch them „in the wild“ and not standing on a show floor confusingly lighted and surrounded by people. Nonetheless, there were a few cars that caught my attention so I’ll show you what I was able to capture of them.

The Toyota FT86 concept, already a few years in the „not-making“.. although „modern“ and therefore probably all soft it could be quite the new Hachiroku.

A car I didn’t exactly expect to see.. the rotary R26B powered Group C Mazda 787B. Its 1991 Le Mans win remains the only win at La Sarthe by a Japanese car as well as by a car not powered by a reciprocating engine until today.

Corvette ZR-1.. made me think about how nice two thick black lines would look on that floor.. 🙂

The new Lotus Esprit, quite a stunning design if you ask me!

Porsche 918 RSR.. that’s how I can live with the Hybrid tag! 10300rpm, 555bhp, 3.4L V8 driving the rear wheels plus two electric motors powering the front wheels, combining to a total of 757bhp.

Almost felt like seeing a good friend.. 🙂 the 911 GT3R hybrid that raced at the nurburgring. Looks better at Wehrseifen though. 😉

A very orange italian collection of angles and creases, the Lamborghini Bullfighting.. ehm Aventador.

A brand new swedish creation, the Koenigsegg Agera. Probably has about 7000bhp and runs on elk pee.

Tricky one this.. The Italdesign-Giugiaro designed Toyota Volta concept, powered by the Hybrid system from the Lexus RX400.

If you have enough money you can always have your car professionally ruined in whatever which way you wish..

Or you could call BMW and try to persuade them to give you one of those: a M3 GT2, new nickname: hammerhead shark.

In case you read my aerodynamics lecture from this week, here’s an example of a good front lip.

The new Aston Martin Virage. Appearently there are people who thing the DB9 is not enough and the DBS too much, because that’s where Aston says this car fits in..

That’s it for my picks. Please feel free to visit my website (completely redone just yesterday!!!) to see them in higher resolution. Or soon my Facebook for a few more silly pics I took when I got bored with the cars. Hockenheim drift pics will start to show up on my page in the comming days too 😉Last friday, I made the trip to Geneva for the fifth consecutive year.
