The car looks angrier than ever sporting the new ZÜRIDRIFT livery on the bonnet and roof and of course the exquisite bosozoku exhaust on the back. No, I did not lose a bet. This exhaust is just a joke to us, you can’t help but put on a stupid grin when looking at it! Also I read on the internet it adds 85 horsepower.

Other changes are the big sponsorship stickers by our new sponsor Touge Speed Shop, which as an awesome UK-based extreme sports clothing and design company. We are absolutely stunned to have become part of the Touge phenomenon and are looking into a bright future working together with these guys!

The other changes to the S14 are the technical ones: Team Speed Industries is now working together with two well known tuners in Switzerland – Chipracing and Maxspeed. These guys are supporting us in making our driftcars more competitive than ever!

In the case of the ZÜRIDRIFT S14, Chipracing has invested an incredible amount of work and dedication to give the car a much needed overhaul. Engine compartment and suspension has been massively modified since the S14 was basically falling apart after 4 years of hardcore drifting and just doing minute repairs using zipties.

Firstly, everything concerning water / oil / air has been refurbished, to get rid of any factors which could cause troubles on track. New water cooling, new oil cooler, shortened and optimized intercooler piping, a new recirculation valve to replace the leaking unit, removed any electrical components which could cause trouble, and so on.

Then many suspension components were rebuilt and changed, as well as the rear differential. (now Kaaz 2-way) The completely knackered steering rack was replaced, giving it back that crisp feel that car used to have years ago. The seating position was also perfected with new super-low seat rails. A laser suspension alignment was thrown in, using a slightly different setup concerning camber and toe to maximize grip.

Even the weight distribution was improved by fitting plastic windows on the front doors and moving the battery to the trunk.

A Garret GT2871 turbo has been inserted under the bonnet to finally get rid of the massive turbo lag I’ve been experiencing since day 1. Of course, the car was remapped to these new circumstances personally by the boss of Chip-Racing. The aftermarket headers were removed since they were always prone to cracks, so it’s back to the stock header now. The aging AVC-R boost controller was replaced by a Blitz Dual SBC unit. On top of that, these madmen installed a carbonetics clutch kit to finally put the power to the ground properly.

Steering lock has been improved quite a bit as well. Chipracing even added a formula D-style protection beam on the frontend so I could ram any competitors right off the track if I wanted to! Oh yeeeah.

The new suspension setup has been tested twice already this year in Monza and Hockenheim. It still needs some tweaking to maximize grip and speed out of transitions, but the car already feels much more stable and precise than it ever has! I’m convinced once the setup is perfected in a few weeks time, I’ll be able to go absolutely mental with full confidence even on high-speed drifting circuits. Next stop for testing: Speed Industries drift day on 20. April 2011 in Anneau du Rhin (FR).

Stay tuned for Team Speed Industries to attack both the german IDS competitions as well as the italian D1 Stella. This should be an incredible year for the team and we are fully commited to rock the track and aim for the podium wherever we go.

So many thanks at this point to our partners, sponsors, media and support-crew which all invest an incredible amount of dedication to get us where we are now, and even further from this point onwards. We truly believe that we are on to something big here and I’m convinced it will all come together in 2011 and the years to come!

GO TEAM SPEED INDUSTRIES GO!
