Photography Friday – Anneau du Rhin AllstarsPhotography Friday – Anneau du Rhin Allstars

We here at Speed Industries have quite an incredible month behind us. It’s been something like eight events in five weeks recently, so things got a little stressful sometimes. For me, this has meant going through about 15’000 pictures while still trying to find some time for the „normal“ live in the few days between the events. I’m not complaining though, as it has been an awesome month for me, I love almost nothing as much as being out there in the smoke and dust of drift events with my friends!

we photographers have the best spectators spots! 🙂

Unfortunately, last week’s Photo Friday had to make room for me driving around getting Alain’s trailer fixed in order for us to get to the IDS round in Sosnova, CR, safely. The blog and pictures from there will come up on this blog very soon. In the meantime, for this edition of Photo Friday I’d like to show you what I was able to capture at the Drift Allstars round that took place at Anneau du Rhin, France, two weeks ago.

Anthony „Scotty“ Scott put on a very smoky display time and time again.

The course was very fast and open which with no slow second gear corners. This made for quite a challenge for the drivers as well as the photographers, especially as all of us also struggled with the light, with the event lasting from 5pm well into the night on friday and saturday.

Andrew Hirschy vs. the track and me and high ISO settings vs. the dark 🙂

I therefore decided to use a part of the event to further practice and reduce my long exposure pan blurriness.. 😉

Speed Industries driver Tobias Welti was in good shape, qualifying for the battles!

Phil Guillod doing his usual smoky thing.. he battled the Allstars all the way to the end and finished 3rd!

Benno Frieden with his now pink BMW going nuts.

Among the strong showing of french drifters was this S14, pulling huge entries into the final corner all day.

Jocks Drift Team driver Jacob Hansen certainly made use of his awesome S15, finishing second in the end.

On the second day of the event we suddenly discovered that we had overlooked a great spot for taking pics. Head judge Andy Jaenen actually pointed us towards it, thanks for that! 🙂

Paul Vlasblom was very strong all weekend before having a dangerous looking crash during the battles, almost flipping his backup BMW.

loads of angle on a very fast track, thumbs up from me! 😉

Gotta include a picture of Walton Smith’s Japperformanceparts scooby again.. He also progressed pretty far in the battles despite missing the first practice session. I put about 50 pics of it from wheelsfest on my page and simply can’t stop. It’s the scooby driver in me..

Nigel Colfer had two major offs during the weekend, damaging even his oil sump and losing his front anti roll bar. He battled on in spite of all that.

This very cool JZ S13 also showed impresive runs.

Don’t know how famous it is, but I’d certainly like to drift it!

Another advantage of this photographer’s spot right next to the judging tower was the fact that the drivers were still looking for the best line through the very fast 4th gear combination leading into the main „arena“. This made for some action, which makes for spectacular pictures. As long as nothing bad happens, I like that! 😉

Patrick Ritzmann hates cones!

A Soarer going slightly off road

Never Lift!

Let me close this with a picture of the eventual winner, James Deane!

Smokey drifts past 10pm.. that’s Anneau du Rhin KD Race / Drift Allstars!

Unfortunately, very restrictive organization meant that we photographers couldn’t get to the infield for the „amateur“ class competition. While this would have been fine during the day, after 10pm this ment that I wasn’t able to get any pictures of our drivers Chris and Swen, who finished an amazing first and third!! Congratulations and I’ll make sure to deliver a lot more pictures of you guys in the future! 😉

More pictures as always on www.silverpics.ch and www.donthomaso.ch!
