My weapon of choice has always been my trusty green S14. This car has been with me for over six years now, almost since when I first started drifting.
And now after so many years, going trough tough and wonderful times and everything in between – It looks like this car’s chassis is finished. The rear turrents are folded. The ride has been feeling shaky, unstable and indirect for quite a while now.
The issue climaxed at the recent IDS Round 5 at the Nürburgring where I could not compete anymore in the battles and had to watch the show from the stands.
And that was it – even if I have an emotional investment in this car, I won’t be held back by a chassis that limits my ability to compete at my best in drifting. And so I decided just two weeks ago to break this car and strip it for parts.
I am feeling both sad to let it go, but also proud of what was achieved with this simple pile of metal – this car was a centre of attention for myself and so many of my friends.
So much blood and sweat were put in to make it to each event, to every competition and to just enjoy this drift lifestyle we’ve all grown accustomed to.
It was with me back on the road when we used to run the touges at night and had countless road trips on it’s belt even before it was retired from the streets to become a PRO-level drift car.
I’ve ran in more battles than I can count in this car, crashed into walls, other cars and gravel traps so often I don’t know where to start. Probably rammed a thousand cones off the track and applied ten-thousand zipties to hold it together time after time.
We’ve worked days and nights on this car, invested most of our income and time to get it prepped and ready for battle. And once the dust settled after the competitions, we would return to base to do it all again and again without looking back.
Within all those years the car started having what some call personality or what I call „looking like shit“. It had this abused and ratty kind of vibe going because I never really gave e a fuck what a car looks like as long as it runs.
Just looking at every scratch, scrape, sticker and ziptied body panel reminds me of all the specials moments I shared with it.
But now the end has come. This car will not be seeing any competition, practice or mad touge action no more. For now, it will become another bare shell stripped for parts sitting in an abandoned shed and wait for more glorious times.
I’ve made a point that I will not let go of the shell and hope that some day, one of our team drivers or friends will take up the challenge and bring this tattered old bird back to live once again. Even if it’s just as a missile training car since the chassis would probably need quite a lot of work.. hope dies last.
Until then, stay tuned what I will be rolling on stage for the sixth round of the IDS PRO drift competition in Monza in two weeks time. We are already working every night to put together a somewhat competitive setup to tear it up hardcooore!
Trust me, it will be at least as mental as this old green car. And who knows, maybe the green S14 will spread it’s wings once again in a second life…
