Photography Friday – OffseasonPhotography Friday – Offseason

As you might have noticed, we’re in between seasons. No trackdays, no driftevents for weeks, what is a petrolhead supposed to do during all this time? Well, I could build myself a 7000hp driftcar and win D1 seven times.. but unfortunately I have no money, otherwise I’d certainly be doing that. So unfortunately I had to restrict myself to swapping the diffs and transmission on my scooby. It’s now even more ready than ever for endless snow-drift session.. but, f..reezing hell, where’s the snow? Well, I could just go to some motorshows then.. and that’s exactly what I did, visiting Essen as well as Luxemburg Motorshow on recent weekends.

Look into my eyes, baby!

Now I’m not a really big fan of motorshows, as I prefer seeing car in there normal habitat with their tires screeching and engines screaming. But it was actually quite entertaining to go to a carshow again for a change.

This car actually had an quoted output of less than 1000hp, which is quite miserable for a 9ff creation…

Essen is quite a big german carshow, focusing quite a bit on tuning. There was also a display of quite an array of past Monte Carlo WRC cars, which was interesting.

Mighty Group B Audi Quattro S1E2.. I would love to one day be able experience the fury of something like that. The S1E2 developed 600PS in its final stage!

Looking rather more timid but actually none the less scary: the mid-engined Peugeot 205 T16

There actually was a driving/driftshow going on most of the time, but I have to confess, I didn’t catch one single show, prefering to look at some more race cars.

BMW’s 2012 DTM M3, can’t wait to see this racing.

Luxemburg Motorshow is even more focused on motorsports, with lots of racecars on display.

The tuning part of the show consists of the inevitable.. „creations“.. which don’t really belong on speed industries. But quite often it’s still worthwile walking through these parts, as there often are surprises hidden in unexpected places. This time we found a really clean almost-new looking S15 as well as this really nice Hachiroku:

Although the new 86 is already all over the place, with cars being readied by many tuners, I still prefer the old shape!

What made Luxemburg the best motorshow I’ve been though (haven’t been to many 😉 ) were the cool my good photographer friend Alok and I hung out with all weekend. Oh and the E500 I got for the trip from my current employer wasn’t bad either.. shame these things are limited.

Not a racecar but a really confortable way to cover big distances quite fast.

The main attraction meanwhile was the driftshow that took place several times a day. Yves Faber was in charge of this part of the show and him and fellow drifters Paul Vlasblom, Bas Plugge, Frederic Ferreira, Sébastien Boulbi (I hope that’s correct), Rohan van Riel and Juri Bianchi put on an awesome show!

Juri, Rohan and Yves getting close to each other.

It’s been a while since I’ve seen such a smoky driftshow!

Paul Vlasblom’s venerable 3-series touring.
