Corner talk: what to bring to a trackday / raceeventCorner talk: what to bring to a trackday / raceevent

Hi guys

Today we are going to talk what you should bring to a racetrack besides your car.
(I hope you hear the teacher in me 😉 )

It probably happened to a lot of people, me included, coming to a track event and then missing some items, tools or spare parts. When I attended my first trackday, I actually did not have a helmet, what was I thinking.
So to help you not doing the same mistakes I show you what to bring. Should you have a race team with like 10 people working on your car anyway, then please skip this section.

Minimal requirements:
This is the bare minimum what I would suggest everybody to bring with him for a trackday or race event.
The assumption here is that your car is in good condition.
– helmet (most events require a helmet)
– something to drink so you stay fresh
– something to clean your windows
– some engine oil
– extra fuel
Even the newest engine can burn some fuel under heavy driving and the older ones tend to do even more so.
Extra fuel will help you to get to the nearest fuel station, just in case you had a bit too much fun at the track and there is no fuel station right there.

Medium requirements:
This goes out especially to all the drifters and everybody else who is switching tires.
Additionally to the minimal setup you should have:
– car jack
– four way socket wrench or similar tool for the wheel nuts
– extra wheels
– race tape
– small tent
The small tent can really be helpful if it is really sunny or raining all day long. And they can be picked up for like 50 bucks these days.
Race tape can basically help with everything, I have seen cars being hold together just with tape.

Do yourself a favour and take a hydraulic jack, not a screw type.

Big Setup:
Since there is no maximum setup, I just called it the big one.
– all fluids for your car (brakes, diff, water, oil, fuel)
– stands for under your car
– a decent sized tool box with all the tools you might need
– gaskets for exhaust
– spark plugs
– replacement tie rods
– extra brake pads / maybe discs
I am sure I am missing some stuff here, but you can just keep on reading to get more ideas.

Our setup:
Here is some stuff we nowadays have with us at drift events. Obviously we would have different or less stuff with us for a regular trackday or grip event.
– LOTS of tires
– compressor and air tools
– spare diff
– spare turbo
– spare clutch
– spare brake pads
– 2 sets of all exhaust side gaskets
– spare intercooler piping silicone hoses
– hoses for various things
– wheel spacers
– copper gaskets
– spare power steering pump
– 2 sets of tie rods
– spare suspension arms
– race tent
– big tool box
So this gives you an idea on what is in our team bus and what we carry with us.

Setup is Alain approved.

To get your perfect setup you should determine what exactly can go wrong on your car and under which circumstances. This should give you a good idea on what to bring with you.Hi guys
