Speed Industries Drift Team Driver: Alain Thomet Speed Industries Drift Team Driver: Alain Thomet

Alain is one of my best drift drivers and I got to know him at one of my first drift practices back in 2007 I think.
When it comes to drifting he is probably the least anxious driver I know. He does not give a f… about his car, the track or his own life as soon as he starts drifting.

Here you see him almost flipping the car at Hockenheim after a tire exploded

Alain started drifting with his first S14 on some mountain touges (we do not advise you to do this!) in the backcountry of Switzerland. Soon after he started to modify his car and got some much needed track time. When it came to his second S14 he realized it would not make sense to keep in on the streets due to the laws in Switzerland which would have prohibited the car to reach a decent spec. So it got his trackweapon of choice and he got an Ae86 as a daily (not a bad choice if you ask me).

His daily ride until 2010

In early 2009 I asked him if he wants to join the team and after discussing all the details he had no choice then to join in (otherwise he would have been banned from all our events or would have had to get a BMW to join the Germans 😉 ).

In 2010 he drove his first Drift season and the results confirmed my confidence in him. He had some top 6 rankings in various races with a 2nd spot as a best result. He could have done even better if not a lot of mechanical issues would have kept him back.

This brings me to another interesting point about Alain. He is probably the driver with the least knowledge about how to work on a car. If he works on your car or just touches it be assured something will blow, and that will not be the tire. He always brings a good vibe to the mechanic shop but no one lets him work on any car.

What the car which I worked on exploded?? AGAIN??

So keep an eye open for the green S14 in 2011. He is a sure bet to go all out.
