Interview: Martin Reinsch’s new drift carInterview: Martin Reinsch’s new drift car

After building for a long time Martin Reinsch is back with his new car. A proper Nissan 200SX S14 like he used to own and drift… but this one isn’t quite the same. it’s a serious step forward to a top notch competition car. Built with all the knowledge and heart that Martin had accumulated over his years of pro drifting in germany up until it ended with a crash in Sosnova, Czech Republic back in early 2010.

This is the result of a serious yet subtle build – more than 1000 hours were spent on the car!

How’s your new car compared to the old one?
It’s still about the same as the old car, just some „small“ modifications I always wanted to do, but I never had the time to take the old car apart. It’s nice what you can do if you build a car from scratch.

The secrets of the new car are found in the details – seam welded strut towers eg.

What are the 3 most important improvements on the new car?
A lot less weight, way improved handling and a bit more steering angle.

The same front suspension setup is used as on the old one – Tein Super Drift

Why did it take you so long to finish?
I had a lack of motivation and took a break from the build over the winter. All in all it took over 1000 hours to get the car to its current spec. Without the help of Bernd from Seifert-Performance.de the car wouldn’t work as brilliantly as it does.

Martin was always a true SR20DET fanatic – RB35DEVKT swap shows something else 😉

Has drifting changed for you since the incidence at Sosnova?
No. Drifting in germany changed over the last two years, but the crash in czech republic hasn’t changed anything – not talking about my wallet lol. To be honest, I was a bit scared that I might have some kind of a blockade in my head after this impact. But nothing has changed. I’m just a little bit more careful with the walls.

Many parts were still intact after the crash so Martin reused them on the new car.

How was the first event with the new car?
Simply awesome! I spent some hours in the car on the care track and it worked perfectly. I was running a bit more tire pressure in the rear to keep the speed a bit lower and get used to everything again. But the car is fast and appart from a blown boost hose I had absolutely no problems. The first event was the famous Sport Auto Drift Challenge at Hockenheim, where lots of the best european drifters compete. I managed to finish 10th overall out of 75 drifters, which was a very statisfying result regarding the fact I hadn’t been drifting for 11 months and this was the first time in the new car. I had like a 15 minute test drive before the event.

Last detail work on the car

What would you like to do in future? (Drifting)
Start traveling around again. German drifting isn’t very interesting at the moment, so im trying to do different events in foreign countries like I did back in the days.

The car in action – again!

What are the plans the rest of the season and 2012?
To be honest there are no plans. I’m keeping an eye on the german drift scene and I hope it’s going to get better.

This might be the most impressive picture – A street legal 200sx S14 with more than 400bhp staying below 1170kg!

Martin, we all hope to see you on track soon, driving safely with the new car. The build quality and the knowledge that went into the details on the car are stunning. 1170kg isn’t that easy to crack on an S14 especially when staying on the road.. Thanks for taking your time!

And here’s the last video of the old car… – Sad story
