After owning an AE86 for a long time and enjoying the car to the fullest, I had the chance to ride with Bobs orange monster. His Ae86 had overgone several transformations including a mildly tuned 4age 16V to a semi built 20V with 190bhp. But nothing lasted in the car for too long. Finally, a 7age 1.8l found its place in Bob’s car! The 7age is a hybrid engine build with a 7afe Celica/Carina bottom end and a 4age 16V head. The big advantage is more torque throughout the rpm band.

I met Andi the first time at some slalom race a few years back. I heard some stories about him and his Ae86 being quite fast and after seeing him and his bullet the first time I was sure there was nothing wrong about those stories.

Today it’s not friday, but nevertheless we have a few pictures for you. All hachiroku owners have all ups and downs of that 25 year old beloved shitbox. We asked a few owners to share their passion with us!

Some proper real world cars to go fastSome proper real world cars to go fast

Coming back to the budget racer I came across this video.
These cars are real world cars for real world roads and budgets. Although driven by some crazy lunatics (Tsuchiya, Taniguchi and Orido) to the bare limit, you could have just as much fun with such a car.

Please do not do this on public roads. Even the professional race drivers crash on such roads (check other issues of touge battle).

You should check out the other videos from the touge battle series. Some epic battles are in there.Coming back to the budget racer I came across this video.

„Well, there’s a challenge.. finding pictures for a drift edition of photo friday.. “

That was my initial ironic reaction on seeing this weeks theme.. but then it dawned on me that actually it was gonna be quite hard to pick any driftphotos with some kind of meaning, as I generally look to post something with at least a little bit of relevance to a certain topic, not just random pics. After pondering a few options I came up with the following idea: I want to try and post as many fundamentaly different drift shots as possible. And I’m not talking about the colors of the cars either..

During this week we had already a very fast hillclimb car and a very well known driftcar from Japan. Today we are moving on to gripracing on track!

As you might have noticed, it’s Hachiroku Week (although the weather right now seems more like it’s GC8-week… *gg* ), so I’m just gonna leave you with a few selected shots of the various cool Hachirokus I’ve been able to shoot throughout this year:

The hachiroku is an all time favorite in many different motorsport competitions, therefore we look closer at driftracing today. This particular car I’m talking about is maybe the first ever winner of a drifting competition in Japan. Yes, for all the maniacs we are talking about Katsuhiro Ueo’s famous AE86. With this car he won the D1GP in Japan in the year 2002. Unfortunately the D1GP is now in sake of more smoke and higher speeds and so the car tends to be underpowered and uncompetitive. Today the AE86 is still the car which has won a D1GP the third most time, the Nissan S15 and the Mazda RX7 FD are just pushing it to 1st and 2nd on the podium.
